Amazing Child

In my bible study this year we are studying the life of Moses. I was touched to read that Moses was exactly Charles's age when his mother put him in the basket on the Nile-3 months old. The bible says she hid him for 3 months because she saw there was something special about him. Our group discussed what that might be. So I've been watching Charles closely to see what special things he can do at his young age.

Here he is looking like his brain is saying "grab the bottle" but his body isn't repsonding. Usual for a baby his age.

But then THIS happened!!! The bottle actually started moving!!!

We'll see what he does with the bath water later today!!

Giggling

There's plenty that makes Charles smile now. Saying "I love you." Tomas asking "Where's my great big smile?" Daddy just saying his name to him. But now there are also a few things that make him giggle. He has a new game-when he's getting dressed or undressed sometimes he really gets a belly laugh going. It's so funny. Here he is giggling away. Sorry the video is sideways. I can't figure out how to flip it but will be sure I record in the correct direction from now on. Now that I know how to do it at all!

Feeding my crafty fever

No, I do NOT need another hobby...but I DO need to feed the need to be crafty, it's in my blood. I DO have time to scrapbook but taking out the supplies and putting them away again seems like a daunting task at the moment. One day I remembered that I actually know how to knit--which surprised my husband. I don't think he actually believed me. So, I started small with something that knits up if a few hours. I can take it with me wherever I go, pick it up and put it down with NO clean up! I've made about 5 of these. Charles got one and the rest I donate to Mad Hatters who give them to local hospitals and chemo patients etc. Once I get good enough maybe, just maybe I'll knit a sweater. The pattern is easy and just a change of colors makes it a strawberry, eggplant, lemon etc etc. My girlfriend want to sell them at her ebay store. If you REALLY want one, I guess I can do them to order. Just tell me the fruit you want. I'm moving on to little green and red elf hats after October in time for some Dec. babies.

PLAYING CATCH UP

sorry guys! Time just gets away from me. Here's what's been going on for the past 2 weeks in 50 words or less (right! When have you known me to be brief?)

3 MONTHS OLD!!! REMEMBER 1 month old?
.....

Time to retire the hat. Look at this growth! No other time in one's life are people more encouraging about gaining 7 lbs in a month, burping at the table and finding gas passing adorable.

Going home from hospital. 3 days old

Father's day...a couple of weeks old

Just the other day!!

Baby got a bumbo.

These seats are from South Africa. It's made of soft spongy rubber and the seat is angled downward. I'm not into gadgets but whenever I put Charles in the swing, he falls asleep, this keeps him more alert. As long as your baby can hold up their head this is a great gadget. I bought if from some one who said at 6 mo. her son could climb out of it. Now Charles can sit at the table (actually ON) with us when we have dinner!
...Tomas has no trouble eating while Charles is starring at him!

The roll over.
The other night Charles rolled over in the middle of the night. Later that day we were taking a nap together on my bed when we were both rudely awakened when he abruptly hit the floor. Yikes! He is far from mastering the maneuver and it takes him quite some time to accomplish the task but here's what it looks like so far.

Wardrobe Malfunction

Ok, this was an enlightening, exciting evening. Today was Caleb's open house at his High School. We walk around and meet all his teachers and get the low down on how everything runs and what our kids are up to (or NOT!) So, first we received an email from one of his teachers that he had a rough day behavior-wise today...so we were eager to speak to her.
Steve has pointed out many a time, how old I will be when Charles starts HS...I did, in fact, feel a little out of place tonight. He was the ONLY baby there. He behaved well and all but it was NOT elementary school where a few people ALWAYS have a baby, nope, I was the ONLY one with a baby. The thought of pretending I was a senior and this was a teen pregnancy and Steve was, perhaps, my dad crossed my mind--but who am I kidding. I may FEEL great for a 43 yr. old who just had a baby--but I'm sure I'd never pass as playing the part of a teenager.

Charles was a little fussy the first few classes then he fell asleep for the next couple of classes but then we hit the class in which Caleb had trouble today and ugggh. The teacher is probably thinking that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

First the two women on either side of us could not stop cooing at the baby which must have been distracting for the teacher who was talking to the rest of the 'class' (class of parents). Then he er'h'm shall we say 'tooted'/passed gas/ let one loose/ok--he farted, quite loudly. That attracted the attention of people 2-3 seats over--who also thought it was cute and chuckled. Luckily someone else's cell phone rang to divert the attention momentarily. Then Charles started cooing and 'ah-goo' ing at daddy who was sitting behind me--in the back row where we all deserved to be banished anyway. Then, the piece de la resistance I felt the warmth of the baby...too much warmth...uh, Charles had a wardrobe malfunction. We probably should have just slipped out when the teacher was finished but baby brain and all, Steve (with Charles and I in tow) marched right up to the teacher to introduce ourselves like responsible parents--I'm sure she wasn't buying it. It could have been worse (but not much), we could have been sitting in the front row where Caleb had spent the day. LOL

International Exposure

A BIG shout out to my cousins in Switzerland. THANK YOU MARINA & GUY. Though as soon as Charles and I are alone in the house, I try to switch to speaking Spanish most of the day...he received this beautiful Irish sweater from my cousins in Switzerland. It's soft and will be a staple to his wardrobe in the winters here and when we go visiting family in Idaho, Utah and NY over the next few years. And hey! maybe we'll see how it fares a Swiss winter one of these years!!

Bye Bye August

Miscellaneous meanderings to wind up August at the LeFevre household....

After receiving a report
that he was reading at an
end of 9th grade reading
level (he's in 7th grade!) Clay felt
proud and motivated and decided to start
Charles on the same track.

Believe me or NOT...but mom's know best. Charles was POSING for this picture. NO KIDDING! I was trying to get a picture of him rubbing his eye as he was sleepy but when he saw the camera he stopped and I took several pictures like this.

Little get away...we 'got away' for a night. We told Tomas we were going away for a night...packed up Charles and EVERYTHING he would need and went...about 5 min away! Tomas kept asking 'where are you going?' We kept saying "away, just for the night." Then we played hooky from church and went out to breakfast instead. Charles impressed us by traveling well and behaving very well at the other greatest place on earth for child friendliness...Denny's!
